Squad8 Regionals: Squad10 Ready For Action
Squad 8 Regionals Report
Last 17th of January, 8 Soul Reapers gathered for the monthly Regionals in the battleground of XP. It was to see who would be worth of becoming Captain of the 8th Squad. Each of us brought our own army to prove our mettle in this tournament. Four of those gathered were already captains of their own respective squad. They were Icy “Cruboy” Cruel of 1st Squad, Peter “Lionboy” of 5th Squad, King “Graymalkin” Mahino of the 6th Squad and yours truly, Captain of our Region’s Squad 7. I had chosen to employ the services of Toshiro and Rangiku for the upcoming contest.

The other remaining 4 participants would have to prove their worth in bearing the title of Squad 8 Captain. Ron “Taleweaver” Ramos brought Byakuya to guide his purist Squad 6 team. Pete “Blitz” Tan had a curved up Toshiro Squad 10 build. Mark “Ozawabinladen” Padua stayed loyal with the Family deck, getting the helping from Kisuke. And the last entrant was Dennis “Lost” Ching who brough along Rukia with Mods in Tow.
The 1st round of the trials began with me going up against Squad 5 Captain Lionboy. He chose to use Jin Kiraya’s Bount Army. Portal had allowed me access to a wealth of cards Toshiro and Rangiku could allow me to release the limits. Toshiro’s Icy Gaze has proven to be quite a highly regarded power as it can surely shut down the opposing army and flash enable him a second strike. Never getting off a good start, a crazed Mabashi never factored in for his side as his teammate was easily QQ’d back to the sidelines. Toshiro and Rangiku had already set itself up for a multiple attack for the win by then.
The next match for me was Taleweaver’s Byakuya Squad 6. Only Renji was around to match swords with Toshiro and Rangiku. A Surprised Toshiro early appearance allowed me to free up some resources after the 1st round of combat. This would automatically bring out him Ready to Strike for a flurry of attacks in the next battle sequence. Given the freed mana, it was quite easy to Reality Check Taleweaver’s 6 Bars of Light and win the race.
A pissed of Rukia has given the squad 10 consistency to make it’s engine a top tier contender. Along with a versatile Combining Forces, this has allowed them the opportunity to be a quicker response team.
The third round had me facing the only other undefeated participant, Captain of Squad 6, King “graymalkin”. He had Rukia, a short tempered teacher, early on to fetch a Bakudo 6 Bars of Light for him. I knew there would be trouble on this part. He then recruited a Surprised Byakuya as he completed the brother/sister tandem. He would then take the opportunity to metamorphose his Byakuya into an aggressive Squad 6 Captain that would swing along with his sister in Battle. I swung back with Toshiro and Rukia to try and even the race, but at this point, Graymalkin Reality checked my reality check to make sure his Six Bars of Light slowed my progress. Another bash to the face by Rukia and Byakuya nearly sealed my fate though i was able to Reality Check this time his 2nd Six Bars of Light. In the end, a QQ on my Rangiku wasn’t enough as i had Orihime and her leeks spin along with Toshiro for a multiple attack dealing around 21 power damage for the squeaked out win.
In the end, i was able to win the tournament. Coming in 2nd and the Captain for Squad 8 was Taleweaver. Congratulations are in order and i think some Sake will be served as well for the celebration.
In a week’s time, it will also be our Soul Society Championships. It’s time to get ready for it.
